The role and team
The Data Modeller is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining high‑quality conceptual, logical and physical data models that accurately represent business needs and support long‑term data, analytics and engineering outcomes. The role translates complex business requirements into structured, well‑governed data models and documentation, enabling reliable data pipelines, consistent definitions and shared understanding across the organisation.
You will contribute to data quality, governance, controlled vocabularies, and catalogue management, while working closely with subject matter experts, Data Engineers, and cross‑functional teams to ensure models align with business processes, terminology, and strategic objectives.
So, who are you?
- You will offer a strong knowledge of data modelling methodologies, including at least one of the following: Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault, relational and dimensional modelling, 3NF, and core data warehousing concepts (essential)
- Proficient in creating ERDs using multiple notation standards, including at least one of the following: Crow’s Foot, UML, SQLDBM (essential)
- Hands‑on technical capability with databases, ETL/ELT pipelines, and programming languages such as SQL and PySpark.
- Ability to apply abstract modelling techniques, such as generalisation, subtyping and super‑typing.
- Strong understanding of business processes and effective communication skills, with the ability to gather requirements, design solutions, and explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset, with a strong focus on learning, problem solving, and continuous improvement.
