Principal Engineer - Performance Test

Our Quality Engineering team plays a vital role in enabling our technology function. We focus on enhancing capabilities, fostering continuous learning, and embedding quality throughout the delivery lifecycle. Now, we’re looking for a Performance Engineering Capability Lead—someone who can shape the strategy, lead the vision, and drive performance assurance across our tech landscape.

This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll define how we validate system performance early, test efficiently, and focus assurance where it matters most. You’ll work across delivery teams, integrating the most effective tools, setting performance baselines, and ensuring alignment with our engineering standards and SDLC.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll own the performance engineering capability—building a clear roadmap, developing best practices, and leading a team of specialists. You’ll consult with delivery teams, manage tools and resources, and ensure performance testing is accessible, scalable, and cost-effective. You’ll also oversee supplier relationships, budget management, and team development.

Your work will bring visibility, innovation, and education to performance testing across Specsavers, helping us deliver high-quality outcomes at sustainable speed.

What You’ll Bring

You’re a trusted collaborator with a technical mindset and a passion for quality. You’ve worked with complex multi-channel systems, understand continuous integration, and have hands-on experience with performance testing tools and methodologies. You know how to evaluate and integrate solutions that support scalable delivery—and you can articulate the value they bring.

Experience with cloud infrastructure, large programmes, people management, and budget oversight would be a bonus.
